What would happen if there were no people in New York City? Subways would flood, pavement would crack, weeds would grow in abandoned streets, office towers would crumble, the city would start to burn, streams and marshes would form, and–within 500 years–mature forests would grown throughout the entire metropolitan area. These are some of the predictions proposed by scientists in a New Scientist article from 2007. (Source: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=an-earth-without-people&page=1)

This is a fascinating idea to consider as we humans constantly manipulate the world around us. If we weren’t around to maintain our necessities, then nature would reclaim these areas, and over thousands of years would wipe out human’s footprint.
